Mr Tom: Campus Counselor

My happiest moment

“Probably in college, I went to the school up in the mountains. My roommate worked at the ski lift. So he had a free pass that I could use. I would use it on Tuesdays and Wednesdays because I did not have any classes. I would snowboard all day. It was awesome. You are up in the mountains and in nature! It was beautiful.

“One of the saddest moments was when I was in the Peace Corps. A Peace Corps is a type of service that Americans can do in another country. So I got sent to Peru in a very small village in the mountains. When I got there I was alone. It was cold and I got very sick and I started throwing up. Also, I did not know anyone there and it was a very bad time for me. After some time, someone got medicine for me, but before I got better it was a hard time. I felt very alone.”

A proud moment

I will stick to the Peace Corps: so once I climbed a volcano about 8000 meters high. It was very hard, probably the hardest thing I have ever done. You climb up for 5 hours and in the middle of the night. At midnight you take a nap in a tent, and the wind is blowing on you very hard, and it is very cold. And you wake up at 5:00AM, and hike the rest of the 3 hours to the top of the volcano and the sun comes up, and it is very cool.”
