PYPX: A Sixth Grader’s Thoughts
When I turned to 6th grade, I was very excited. I used to be a first-grader who looked up to the sixth graders. Now, I am one of them. At the very top. I was excited about the things I would experience and the fun project I would go through with my friends and classmates: PYPX.
PYPX, which stands for Primary Years Programme Exhibition, is a big project that people will do when they reach sixth grade. You choose a topic that you are interested in, and then research that topic. You turn it into a big presentation and present it to nearly the whole school. It helps you take a step into middle school, and you get tons of knowledge about your topic. The entire process from starting takes around 2 months, but you’ll practice for it even in term 1. I think that it is a wonderful opportunity for people to teach people their interests and facts about them. My topic is about space debris and how we need to take responsibility for the problem, where it came from, and how it affects us. I chose this topic because when I first heard about it, I didn’t believe that there were pieces of debris in outer space, therefore I wanted to do more research.
In the past, there were very interesting topics, such as taxes, copyrights, 3D modeling, and much more. I remember observing a PYPX presentation about PYPX! This is when I realized that PYPX was a chance where people got to select their interests and other fascinating topics! I was able to see how fun PYPX really was. I felt very excited to do PYPX once I turned 6th grade, and here I am now.
My head is filled with feelings of excitement, happiness, and impatience. I simply cannot wait until the day I get to present arrives. As excitement rushes through my body, my classmates are mostly talking about how nervous and scared they are. I never thought of PYPX in that way. However, it is true. If there is a big project, most people will be nervous. I think that’s okay, because people view things differently. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who is excited, though. My friends still say that they are nervous, but they also said that they are very excited as well.
I have interviewed two of my friends in my class, Ema and Yuina. I asked them their opinions about PYPX and what they were looking forward to. Ema said that she felt that PYPX was a fun chance to explore your interests deeper but can also be stressful. Yuina told me that she mostly felt stressed out by all the work she has to do, but she is happy that she gets to explore a topic that she chose. However, they are both excited and looking forward to seeing other people’s PYPX and presenting their topics.
These were my feelings and opinions about PYPX. Some people may have mixed feelings about it, and others may not think it is as fun. It has been several weeks into PYPX for grade 6, and I am having so much fun. In my opinion, PYPX is a chance to prepare for middle school and a chance to really study about what you’d love to learn about. If you’re reading this, and you’re not in grade 6 yet, I am sure you will enjoy the exhibition.
