Prose & Poetry by OYIS Students

Welcome to The OYISTER’s creative writing column.

Our featured topic for November – December is ‘The Holidays!’

You may still submit a creative writing piece even if it is not connected to the theme, the prompt is only there for people to get a small start on what they could be writing here.

Here, students are encouraged to write and have fun with words, while developing their writing skills and voice. Each time this column is published, it will be assigned an optional topic you can choose to use, or ignore. You can also submit your own stories, poems, memoirs, songs, etc. that you’ve written in the past.

Write as much as you want! It can be a short paragraph, or even 10 pages… a small section for a poem, or an entire song. You won’t be discouraged from expressing your ideas. If you want to keep writing for the next publication, or just want to see a theme that you like to be written about by your peers, you may vote for the next lineup's theme on the form below.

Submit your creative work to be displayed in the next edition by sending it to [email protected]. You can let us know if you prefer that we edit your piece or just give you advice on your writing. We will publish all work that is appropriate for grade 7-10 readers, and clear enough to be understood by the general public.
