Welcome Back to School!

As of now, it’s been about a month and a half since the new OYIS school year began. How’s everyone feeling? (...Maybe don’t answer that.) Just nine more months! We can make it! Ganbare!

Now, just as an introduction to this year, let’s take a moment to recap…

Our school has undergone many changes and crossed many milestones in the past couple of years:

  1. We high school students were transferred to the new Tosabori campus;

  2. OYIS was approved by the IB to begin a DP course (lots of acronyms, I know);

  3. The school had their first ever DP Year 1 students last year;

  4. And now, at Tosabori, this year is host to…

    1. All four high school grades;

    2. Both DP years;

    3. The first graduating class of OYIS—the class of 2023!

It seems there are quite a few interconnecting milestones. This isn’t even mentioning the new administrators and teachers we’ve been introduced to this year.

Our new MYP & DP principal is Mr. Beales—go see our writer Anju’s interview with him in our other articles. Ms. Jess, the new vice principal, has been an English Language & Literature teacher here for two years, and is also the coordinator and advisor of The OYISTER. And finally, we have Mr. Anderson, who teaches Individuals & Societies, and is now the MYP coordinator.

It seems that OYIS is headed in a brilliant direction; personally, I’m very excited to have been able to witness all of these milestones myself, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
