How to Focus on Studying

Have you ever struggled with procrastinating for your studies? Well, this is the right article for you. In this article, I would like to tell you 5 ways to avoid procrastinating during your studies at home. You may have read Eva's article about self-care and organization back in December. I'm here to extend some of the ideas from Eva's article, and give you a 7th-grade student's perspective on how to adjust to the MYP at OYIS!


The first way to focus on your studies is to listen to piano songs of K-pop. This can help you relax and focus on your studies rather than listening to normal K-pop and pop while studying because it may be disturbing your ears, which happens to me sometimes.

I listen to more ballad K-pop music when you want to deeply focus and when I want to get energized while focusing I listen to normal K-pop music that has more energy. 

The second way to focus on your studies is to go to this website:

This website is a timer for how much you study and it is set for 25 minutes. After the 25 minutes, you can take a short break, which is 5 minutes, or a long break, which is 15 minutes. I always use the 5-minute break because I want to finish all of my studying and homework earlier. This can help you focus because if you know how many minutes you have to study, you can focus on your work better.

You can add the tasks that you need to do and press “Start” to begin the timer.

The third way to focus on your studies is to create an environment to study well. Basically, you have to clean your table nicely and don’t leave too much stuff lying around. If you need more light, you can also plug your computer into an outlet and let it charge while you’re studying. Thirdly, if you want to be more comfortable, you can sit on your comfortable chair or the couch. For example, for me, I clean up my desk and get it set when getting ready to study.  This can help you study by making you more focused and can be less distracting to you.

The fourth way to focus better is to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. This can benefit not only your body but your brain because it can help you focus on your work and increase blood flow in your brain. In my experience, I enjoy ice skating each week for my exercise.

The fifth way to focus on studies is to make a to-do list. This can benefit your prioritization, focusing and prevent forgetting to do some assignments or homework.

In conclusion, in order to study, techniques that help include listening to piano music, setting a timer for your tasks and breaks, making a clean environment to study in, exercising regularly, and using a to-do list to organize yourself better.
