Grade 7: Journey to Nakayama

Recently, there have been 2 MYP hikes, one for grade 7 and one for grade 8. Since the G7 hike happened first, The OYISTER will be covering it first, and we'll report on the grade 8 hike next week.

On October 20th, 2020, the G7 class took a bus trip to hike at Nakayama Mountain. The hike started at around 10 or 11 a.m., and we got back around 3:30 p.m. The time it took to go up the mountain was 1:37, and going down took between two and three hours. During the hike, we walked a total distance of 5 and a half kilometers. The elevation climbed was 321m. The teachers that came on the hike with us were Mr. Mark, Mr. Russell, Ms. Sim, and Mr. Arinobu.

The hike was incredibly fun—not only because the trip itself was fun, but also because of the anticipation of going outside. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most school events have been canceled, and going outside has become a lot less common, so after almost a year without outings, going on a trip with friends and being outside was incredibly refreshing. The trip itself was excellent: going up was super fun (and sometimes challenging, because of the lack of path and steep rises) and beautiful, and having lunch at the top of the mountain was very gratifying. For me, the best part was going down, because the teachers split along the path so as to make sure that no students were without a teacher nearby, then let us as students go down in small groups. It was calm and relaxing going down in our own groups (that we usually didn't choose) at our own pace, and it was amazing being able to soak in the environment. Arriving down at the bottom after being in the woods was pure joy.
