How OYIS looks from a Newcomer’s Perspective

Classroom MYP 1

Just this year (2024), I moved from an international school in Hong Kong to OYIS.

The first impression for me of this school is from the school’s official website. The school is really nice and did a lot of charity work to support children and adults that suffer in war or a poor environment.

When I came into this school, the school had appealing facilities and was significantly bigger than the school campus compared to my old school in Hong Kong. They are providing the students with a pleasing environment to do academic work. The students can enjoy themselves at school while doing hard work. My impression when I came here as a newcomer was that I was surprised that the air conditioner system is completed in every classroom; it makes the environment for students easier to focus in class. The school has a variety of courses and projects that make the school more interesting. We are gaining skills not just from academics but also cooperation skills.

The biggest difference between OYIS and my old school is that OYIS is not trying to make students learn but guiding them to learn everything in a more fun way. In the beginning of the school year, I suffered with relationships between students due to different culture background and I was excluded from the major group of boys. But after 3 month of studying in OYIS I made a lot of friends by appreciating others and making changes with problems I made. Right now I ardently love this school. The students are nice and the teachers are doing well in comforting the new students and making them feel welcomed.

In conclusion, this school is really nice and if you are willing to join OYIS you should definitely take a closer look at the school information. Then you could really consider taking an entrance exam and considering getting to the school if you passed.
