Preparing for the Era of AI

Every day, AI evolves and learns information and skills at a much faster rate than us. It is self-evident that AI will be equipped with a vast amount of knowledge and skills, and that AI will replace us in various fields. This might be also true in the field of arts. A few years ago, people predicted that AI wouldn’t be able to perform creative tasks such as drawing or producing music. However, the DALL-E, an AI system that produces realistic images and art, has shocked artists as it produces quality art pieces demonstrating excellent skills, which took many years for the artists to learn. Predictably, having skills and knowledge will be valued less as AI systems begin to be implemented in our daily lives. So, what matters now?

According to Korean writer Minsik Kim, the ultimate difference between AI and humans is that we are able to enjoy what we do and be passionate about it. For instance, AI may outperform humans in chess, but it will never know the feeling of enjoying playing chess. Then, Kim further argues that what will matter the most in the coming age of AI is attitude, which is how you approach life (1). A certain attitude towards life reflects your goals and vision. In the era of AI where human tasks are being replaced, it is more important than ever to ask ourselves: who do I want to be, and how do I want to lead my life? What attitude should I adopt?

How do you define a good attitude, and how would you like to approach the era of AI?
